Welcome to the Quilter's Academy Journal

Harriet and I are glad you visited... we established this blog as a sort of question and answer forum for all of you who are working through the Quilter's Academy book series.
It is also a place to find a list of the errata from the books-
You can find those by looking back through the archived blogs.

So, welcome, and please post a comment if you have any questions or topics you would like us to discuss.

Quilter's Academy Volume 4 is here!! For all of you who have been waiting, the wait is over. This latest edition of the Quilter's Academy series will take you to new heights in building your toolbox of piecing skills.
This volume focuses on 60° an 45° diamonds, this includes hexagons, 60° diamond stars, LeMoyne and other 45° stars, Winding Ways and four great variations on Log Cabins.

We hope you enjoy this volume as much as the others.
Harriet and Carrie are hard at work on volume 5- it will be out in 2014.

Thanks! And enjoy!

  1. What do you mean? vol 5.... I was under the impression this was a series of FOUR....

    1. The plan always has been to have 6 books in the series... so keep your eyes peeled for Volumes 5 & 6 in the next couple years.

  2. Master's Classes here we come!!!

  3. You are so inspiring. I'm retiring next year and just found quilting thanks to you. I've started a blog of my progress like so many others. It is http://quilting-to-retirement.blogspot.com/ I plan to update periodically with both my retirement preparation but also my progress through Quilter's Academy.

Thank you both for the inspiration. Harriet's instructions are very supportive and Carrie's quilts are very inspiring. I hope to be finished with Freshman Year and Sophomore Year by the time I retire. I've got my work cut out for me but I'm sure I'll have a lot of fun along the way.

  4. Thank you for another great volume! I recommend all the books to everyone! There are none better for beginning quilters and beyond IMHO. Now, I have begged my Local quilt shop to carry Prescencia 60 wt for piecing as you have recommended. I have asked for it in many quilt shops even one that is teaching Quilters Academy, and even they don't carry it, only 50 wt. I finally ordered via the internet and it arrived today. I have tons of thread, but have been wanting to try it since Harriet recommended it. I love it, love it, and she is right it is so strong and the seam lies so flat. Again, you ROCK, Harriet. You rock. Thanks for everything you have taught me. Marlene

  5. I purchased Vol. 4 first without knowing anything about you or the series. I was so impressed that I also purchased the first three. These are the best how to quilt books on the market, IMHO. I really hope you demonstrate piecing curves in the future!!

However, I am saddened that you promote Reliable irons, I have been through 3 (prior to purchasing your books) and all have leaked. I will never purchase another "Reliable" iron ever again!!

    1. I'm sorry to hear you have had trouble with Reliable irons. We have had these in our classroom for 8 years and have had no problems. They can leak a little if overfilled, but other than that they work flawlessly.

We are glad however, that you are enjoying the books!
